Solo Performance

When thinking about solo performance what comes to mind is a performance that provokes a reaction with the audience about society. Many solo performances consist of a performer “presenting their personal observations, convictions and fears, share an intimacy with their audience, built purely from their live presence and their words” (Bonney 2000, p. xxi) certain performances will provoke a reaction of some kind even if you don’t want them to, whether it being upset, sympathy, empathy or happiness. The audience will interpret and take away feelings from what they have watched.

Solo performances are intimate and powerful as “The presence of a single performer in front of an audience of many instantly creates conflicting roles for both performer and viewer – great power and great vulnerability” (Bonney 2000, P. xiii). What i want to get from this module is to create a performance that it relateable to the audience and to engage emotionally with the piece.
